As a child I always had a dream to live in the hostel far away from home and experience what this life is like; which is praised by many but at the same time also criticized by many. I am living this dream in reality for past 2.5 years. No doubt, this life has got both pros and cons.
00.0- The life in the hostel starts with B’Day bashes, cakes, hullagulla and dance and masti.
01.00- After enjoying cake comes time for movie and IP bakar. This continues till morning 03.00 o’ clock and then perhaps it is the time to sleep.
08.00- alarm continues to ring. Get up, hurry to get ready for class.
17.00- if there are no classes then this is the sleeping time.
21.00- dinner time
23.30- time to get to the rooms after a long blissful walk and ghumofying with friends.
This was typical hostel life at Nirma. But now after getting into the job this life has taken a shift. Now no late B’Day bashes, no IP bakar and hence no late night parties.
Now almost everyone goes to bed in so called right time and also gets up at right time.
But then there are few things that have not changed and this are learning derived from this life.
No doubt the life @ hostel is full of fun and freedom. There are virtually no restrictions and you can do whatever you want to do. No one to guide you, no one to keep a check on each activity of yours, no one to peep in your cupboard, or your precious private diary or no one to eavesdrop on your long distance call.
But then there are times when you miss your home, your old buddies, food prepared by your mom, the hide and seek you played with your things to hide them from your siblings and the list continues.
But when the freedom comes it comes bundled with responsibilities. If you are financially independent then you have to also manage your own finances so that you don’t fall short of it.
If you there is no supervision on you, you have to be supervisor of your values and be careful that you don’t go astray.
At times when you feel sad and lonely, you have to be with yourself. You know that you simply can’t keep on whining and call your home for petty issues. Hence you have to maintain you calm and blithe.
Right from small-small issues to big issues you have to take a call all alone.
Hence, the life which at portico seems to be really heaven is not so from inside.
Many of friends are too eager to leave their home and experience hostel life. Indisputably, everyone should live such life atleast once in their life time. It teaches a lot and experience learnt here becomes life time learning.
In nutshell, to me 3H- Hostel, Heaven and Hell sounds synonym.
